I was craving ramen, soooo me and one of my favorite food influencers, Amanda (@cowgirlseat) checked out Kura Revolving Sushi Bar. I went when they first opened a while back at the Plano location. This was years and years ago and to the best of my knowledge, the first revolving sushi bar to touch bases here in the metroplex at the time. I was excited to relive the tasty moment.

We walked in and seated after digitally checking in. It took quite some time for waters to be brought out and the sushi bar was probably about halfway filled up as we watched the conveyor belt rotate. I spotted the Real Crab Meat Gunkan and knew it was going to be tasty. However, the real reason I was there was for Ramen! I reviewed all of the ramen choices, which to my surprise were ALL pork. Quick piggy spill: I try not to eat pork often. I love bacon (a major hang-up for me), but that’s about it. So when I get ramen at every single other place I love ramen from, it’s usually chicken or shrimp. So I browsed the menu and saw that they had plenty of meat options on the menu like crispy chicken, all kinds of tempuras… hell even yellowtail cheek! I pressed the button to alert the server that we needed her. A young girl came and told me that they couldn’t change the meat, which definitely left me a little salty and perplexed. I ordered the Tantanmen and slid a crab sushi plate off the belt. Amanda ordered the Tonkotsu + Salmon Golden Crunchy Roll.
Everything looked pretty good and I just knew I was in for a treat! Buuuuuuuttt they’ve fallen off! I couldn’t stomach the crab sushi roll and neither could Amanda. It was very mushy and extremely wet. It also lacked flavor from the crab but also because it was just seaweed, crab, and rice. No sauce, no crunch, no seasoning of any kind, just a wet, not flavorful roll. The ramen was decent… flavorful broth but it just didn’t hit the bar for me. Have you guys been to Kura? If so what do you think?
